Usually ships in 1-2 business days | | | Dislodge hard-packed dirt for enhanced irrigation and pliability with this effective plug aerator from Illinois-based Agri-Fab. Ideal for use with compact soil, clay, drought-damaged plots, and surfaces prone to heavy traffic like a soccer field, the aerator extracts plugs of dirt from the earth in 40-inch wide swathes. By pulling out these small plugs, water and oxygen gain more immediate access to plant roots and soil and creates a healthier environment for growing without disease and pest dilemmas. The disposed plugs can be broken up and added to compose for later use. A tractor tows the aerator, allowing users to cover large spans of land in little time. The plug aerator cores with twenty-four heavy gauge galvanized points, heat-treated for greater durability. Six rustproof spools hold the points, with four points on each spool. The points reach 3 inches into the earth, removing 3/4-inch diameter plugs. Spools are affixed to a heavy-duty, 48-inch wide steel tray. Users engage the aerator with an upright lever on top of the tray. The long lever is easily accessible from the tractor seat. Two 10-by-4-inch pneumatic wheels transport the aerator most any terrain. A hitch pin accompanies the aerator for easy tractor hook-up. For the best results, aerate in the spring and late fall. The aerator was manufactured in the USA. A limited one-year warranty may be available for this item. Upon shipping, the aerator measures 42 by 13 by 10-1/2 inches and weighs 81 pounds. | | | |

Shallow Plugs Sep 22, 2008 I wanted to purchase an aerator rather than rent one since with a couple of uses it would pay for itself. I read every review on this model as well as a few other models so I would have a better understanding on which model to choose. Almost all of the reviews on this 40" aerator are right on the money, box comes torn apart and there are a ton of parts for essembly. I am fairly handy and after reading the reviews I expected that it would take me a couple of hours to put this together, I separated the parts and I was only missing one, 1" bolt which I ran down to the local hardware store and picked up myself. I would say I had the thing together in less than an hour and a half, I felt it was fairly easy as long as you pay attention to the directions, actaully if needed I could've gone by the pictures alone. So now I have this together and can't wait to see how it performs. I purchased 4 cynder blocks as most people suggest and unfortunately even these were not enough to dig into my soil at an adequate depth. I have a sprinkler system so my soil is moist so the ground should be plenty soft enough for the aerator to do it's job. The plugs that were produced where on average about an 1" to an 1.5" long, I don't see how there could be any plugs longer than 2" since when engaged fully that is the deepest depth from the bottom of the wheels to the depth of the plug aerator itself. Sure, by the time a plug is forced out there could be two combined that created a plug that seemed as if it were 3" but from your ground it can'b be 3" deep. I had to go as slow as possible with my ride mower as other reviewers suggested but I had no idea that it would be that slow (snails pace), again I would not mind this if the aerator did what it was meant to do.
Sorry for the long review here but I figure if you have a better understanding of this attachment you will be better prepared when and if you decide to purchase this item. Over-all the item is a sturdy piece that should give you years of service with normal tlc but the results are less than what I would consider worth while. I will try to use this one last time after a good rain just to confirm what I already know but if in the event that some how I am wrong I will update my review. If unfortunately, the results are bad then I will have to return this and start over again.
Plug aerator Sep 03, 2008 Lots of pieces and a bit time consuming to put together (about 2-3 hrs if doing alone) but the aerator works as advertised. Definitely need to add atleast 100 lbs to tray. Also, good idea to to attach a piece of rope to lever to assist with disengaging. Make sure lawn it moist and go slow. Better to own one of these for life than pay for rental or have lawn service aerate your lawn
Agri-Fab 40 Inch Plug Aerator Aug 24, 2008 The product shipped in a short time. All hardware was enclosed. The assembly manual was well written and easy to follow. The product worked well. It was money well spent.
It assembled well. Aug 12, 2008 I just finished putting the aerator together last week. It took a while but all the parts and directions were fine. The consturction appears to be
adequate. You need to be especially careful since there are some sharp parts.
Not a deep core aerator. Jul 25, 2008 This aerator is fine for dethatching and shallow plugs but don't expect to see plugs of soil laying all over your yard when you are finished.
